Barry's Black Beast, or tale of the Intense Dorado.

My good friend and often hassled bike tech Barry, was a foot off the floor today as he was showing off the goods...his brand-spanking new Manitou Dorado. It came in this week, and he got to bolt it up to this fine, also brand new Intense M6, that had been the temporary home to his previous fork, the old school coil sprung Dorado of legend.
This M6 is so new, the custom Elka shock has yet to show up...it will be the very last piece of the puzzle...sigh.
This Dorado, according to the Manitou rep, is the fifth one in Canada so far, and there won't be many more for this model year. That's why I thought it would be cool to share these not so "spy" photos with you all, cause it ain't too often you'll see a Privateer bike with this much high-end hardware on it.
This is the kind of boutique beauty you're likely to see being assembled in the service stands at my home LBS, Hardcore Bikes in Edmonton. E-town's very 1st ever mountain bike specific shop, celebrating 20 years of custom bike building this year. More than just a bike shop, it's the hub of our slice of the Alberta MTB community.

Check out the custom Gold Ano pivot bolts....buh-ling! And that extra bit of gold on the 2009 Saints fits right in.
Top notch wheel set and Tractor trailer brakes...what doesn't this bike have?...(besides a shock in the frame)...
The Dorado came with its own "gun case". When a fork has an MSRP of $4K Canadian...they better send you a damn case...
Zero stack Cane Creek, I run this headset too. So underrated, simply well made. Check 'em out! That head badge says it all, but the braided hoses say it too...this is a fast, World Cup capable machine...

Damn fine write-up Shondo! And that's one helluva M6... Barry is one lucky man!
how come the 2009 dorado is worth so much more then previous years? like i see some people in buy and sell with older ones going for 300. i would expect some price difference but not that much..
because , besides the outside appearance, it's a completely different fork, using totally different technology, and sold only in very small numbers.

had a few guys at my shop that haven't had such good luck with the cane creek headsets.... they always warranty them, looking forward to following this bike for the next few months.
that is amazing!!! but i just cant get myself to like the look of the forks, no doubt they are better than every fork out there!!!
i got my elka on order!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I doubt!
Sick looking, yes, but I'm not sure about the Dorado from what I've seen... Hopefully for you this one will work just fine

They seem to work fine but some of them (maybe protos or first production models, I don't know) simple refuse to work!
There's a joke about the riffle case the fork comes with: it's easy to pack your fork in and send it back for warranty, with no scratch during shipping...
(just a joke...)

now that he paid 4 grand for the fork he can't affornd a rear shock lol....sick bike though would like to know the weight!
Well like it says up top, the Elka shock is on it's way.....it's actually supposedly been shipped and will probably show up early this week. I'll have updated photos in my profile once it's in the bike.

Lets just hope its not a "look at my bike" bike, and it gets ripped like that beauty deserves. Very tight setup
I think it's probably a bit of both..sorry Barry....couldn't resist. But hey, if this were my bike I'd show it off like a hot girlfriend too.

Why havey ust-rims with tube-tires? Its havier like only ust or only tube tires and rims.
But except that, very nice bike!

The seat has got to go, it looks like an SDG. Why not an I-Beam that would make more sense, but if you got to have the Thompson post then get a better railed option.

I think the weight on barrie's ride is close or under 37 lbs. I can't weight to get out riding with him.

The forks costs too much, more than the forks equipped in Motor-X bikes. I wish it could come down a bit.

coooll... don't like the color nor the seat or the brakes ! would trade the brakes for Formula Oro + Selle Italia seat + intense red or works
